Supporting families in keeping disabled family members at home: Swedish policy instruments. In Sweden, a disabled family member is likely to represent a burden on the family. Rehabilitation for Disabled People: a ‘sick’ joke? Professor Barnes, from the Centre for Disability Studies, University of Leeds, England argues that the relationship between disability and rehabilitation is best explained in terms of three distinct but related definitions of disability: the orthodox ‘individualistic’ medical definition, the more liberal ‘inter-relational’ account, and the ‘radical‘ socio/political interpretation commonly referred to as the ‘social model of disability’. He concludes with a brief focus on alternative strategies generated by disabled people and their organisations. Internet publication URL: http://www.independentliving.org/docs6/barnes2003a.html
