Misson and activities:

The Institute serves self-help organizations of disabled people who work for equal opportunities, self-determination and self-respect.
We provide information, training materials and technical assistance on personal assistance, advocacy, accessibility, legislation and peer support.
We publish your articles, reports, manuals or comments and other materials related to Independent Living.

Our non governmental, non-profit, organization works at the international level.

We consider ourselves as part of the international Independent Living and Disability Rights Movement.

Our organization is mainly run, controlled and represented by disabled people.

We have expertise, or are interested in cooperating with other organizations, in the areas of:

Accessible public transportation.
Coalition building and networking.
International development and disability.
Legislation
Parenting.
Peer support.
Personal assistance.
Research.
Universal design.
Direct payments for personal assistance.
Accessible taxi systems.

We set up pilot projects with direct payment schemes for personal assistance and for accessible, integrated taxi transportation.

We have cooperated with organizations in other countries before, among them:

European Network on Independent Living (ENIL) (our director was ENIL's founding chair) and its member organizations in Ireland, Germany, Norway, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, Finland, UK, Spain, Italy, Greece, Slovenia.

CIL Bratislava (pilot project for accessible regular taxi system financed by EU PHARE program)

Union of Disabled Youth in Slovakia (pilot project for direct payments for personal assistance, financed by EU PHARE.

ECEPA, European Center of Excellence in Personal Assistance, financed by the EU.

Japanese Council for Independent Living

Disabled People South Africa, DPSA

We have traineeships or volunteer positions that people with disabilities are welcome to apply for.
